Overview

This internship opportunity is offered through the Mastercard Foundation Associate Program, an initiative aimed at equipping young African graduates with valuable workplace experience, technical skills, professional development opportunities, and leadership capabilities.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Site Performance Analyst Intern will support the Performance Engineering team in monitoring, analyzing, and improving the performance of Helios Towers Malawi's network infrastructure. The role provides an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in telecommunications infrastructure, operational analytics, power systems monitoring, and performance management within a leading telecommunications infrastructure company.

The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering, Operations, and Field Support teams to analyze site performance data, identify trends and anomalies, support issue resolution, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance network reliability and operational efficiency.

Role Responsibilities

As the Site Performance Analyst Intern, you will be responsible for:

• Analyzing site performance, power, and operational data to identify trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
• Processing and maintaining log files from solar, hybrid, off-grid, and on-grid sites for performance analysis.
• Managing and maintaining site performance records and historical operational data.
• Conducting analysis using approved monitoring and reporting platforms, including Dataminer, RMS, RPMS, and ServiceNow.
• Preparing reports, dashboards, and insights to support operational and business decision-making.
• Creating and managing work orders within ServiceNow based on issues identified through performance monitoring.
• Tracking work order progress and ensuring timely resolution of operational issues.
• Performing follow-up analyses to verify corrective actions and measure performance improvements.
• Supporting troubleshooting activities related to site performance, power systems, and network operations.
• Assisting with monitoring site visibility and connectivity across operational platforms.
• Providing analytical support to Zonal Managers, field teams, and other stakeholders to improve operational effectiveness.
• Participating in site visits to support performance assessments, verification exercises, and field investigations where required.
• Building effective working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and service providers.
• Communicating performance findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
• Supporting process improvement initiatives and contributing to a culture of data-driven decision-making and operational excellence.
• Applying analytical and continuous improvement techniques, including Lean Six Sigma principles, to support business objectives.

Requirements for the Role

To succeed in the role, you will have:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline; or a Higher National Diploma in a relevant engineering field.
• Recent graduate status or early-career experience with a strong desire to develop within the telecommunications and infrastructure sector.
• A strong interest in engineering analytics, telecommunications infrastructure, power systems, or operational performance management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights.
