Overview
As Grid Manager, you will be accountable for overseeing the performance, reliability, and optimization of grid-connected sites within Helios Towers’ operations. You will play a critical role in maximizing grid availability, minimizing outages, and reducing energy costs by leveraging monitoring tools, performance analytics, and close coordination with SNEL and independent power producers, and management of Grid Contractors. This role also supports operational efficiency and contributes to energy transition initiatives.
Role Responsibilities
As a Grid Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Monitoring grid availability and performance across all grid-connected sites
- Coordinating with SNEL, utility providers, and independent power producers to resolve outages and improve reliability
- Analyzing grid downtime trends, identifying systemic issues
- Ensuring accurate metering, billing validation, and reconciliation of grid energy consumption.
- Supporting the transition of sites from generator-based power to grid-connected supply as part of fuel reduction initiatives.
- Tracking and reporting grid KPIs, including uptime, outage frequency, cost per kWh
- Maintaining live grid performance dashboards and updating stakeholders.
- Developing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for grid monitoring, escalation, and optimization.
- Leading the transition from Grid Contractor models to fully Grid Managed Services.
- Training and onboarding internal teams for grid service management
- Providing data-driven insights and recommendations to support business cases for any capital investments at site proposed to drive OPEX and operational improvements
- Monitoring the progress of all initiated projects to ensure benefits are realized in line with the business & budgeted case savings. Ensuring business case models are updated to reflect any lessons learned.
- Supporting budget planning through accurate planning of OPEX consumption and projects savings from initiated projects & forecast opportunities, ensuring alignment with business case models

- Overall company month on month energy efficiency
- Overall company CAPEX optimization
- OPEX projects delivery, ROI, and business case prioritisation.
- Value created & cost-effectiveness achieved by process optimization, new initiatives, and improved operations/ways of work etc.
- Stakeholder Engagements
- Improved HTD PUT and downtime per tower per week.
- Timely availability of all scheduled Energy, PUT and SLA reports.
Requirements for the Role
To succeed in the role, you will be/will have:
- 6-8 years’ relevant experience; Process Engineering/ Performance Engineering/ Engineering-Application Optimization.
- Operational experience of working in Africa, operating in remote locations, and managing remote teams
- Knowledge of grid performance metrics, suppliers’ management
- Sounded experience dealing with Government own companies, energy cost optimization, and utility billing processes
- Proactive risk-based approach to Health & Safety
