Helios Towers is a leading independent telecommunications infrastructure company, having established one of the most extensive tower portfolios across Africa. It builds, owns and operates telecom passive infrastructure, providing services to mobile network operators. Helios Towers currently operates in 8 markets in Africa and Oman in the Middle East.

Overview

As Energy Desk Lead within the Smart Operating Centre (SOC), you will be responsible for governing and validating portfolio-wide energy performance across fuel, grid, and hybrid operations. Reporting to the SOC Manager, you will ensure accurate Fuel & Grid Utilization (FGU) validation, strong SLA governance (including SLA 4 and SLA 7), structured dispute management, and disciplined application of energy policies and business rules.

By leveraging digital tools, reconciliations, and structured governance forums, you will drive energy performance transparency, enforce compliance with defined controls, and provide actionable insights that support Opex reduction and operational optimization across the portfolio.

Role Responsibilities

As Energy Desk Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Validating and reconciling daily and monthly FGU data across HT operating systems (RMS Console, WFM, Power BI and related platforms), identifying anomalies, gaps, and deviations requiring investigation or escalation.
  • Monitoring and escalating RMS tampering cases in line with SLA 4 (abnormal readings, missing data, suspected manipulation), coordinating with Security and relevant stakeholders, and ensuring full case tracking to resolution.
  • Managing and resolving fuel disputes, fuel-in-transit discrepancies, sign-off issues, and fuel-related claims, ensuring evidence-based resolution, proper documentation, and timely stakeholder closure.
  • Coordinating and aligning with Maintenance Partner (MP) analysts to ensuring standardized validation methodologies, consistent rule application, and quality-assured outputs prior to governance forums.
  • Tracking and monitoring energy-related Opex initiatives (fuel reduction, hybrid optimisation, grid improvement), measuring benefits delivery against baselines and targets, and highlighting underperformance for corrective action.
  • Providing and presenting structured, decision-ready optimisation insights on fuel efficiency, grid utilisation, and hybrid performance, focusing on actions, impact, and measurable outcomes.
  • Ensuring and enforcing data integrity and WFM discipline for energy-related tasks, including accurate categorisation, reconciliation, timely closure, and escalation of recurring non-compliance.
  • Tracking and validating SLA 7 performance outcomes (eligibility, exclusions, incentive/penalty calculations) and supporting structured governance of performance-based mechanisms and related disputes.
  • Leading and facilitating governance routines (Opex boards, Standard Days, stand-ups), driving action ownership, ensuring closure discipline, and enforcing compliance with defined fuel and energy processes.
